Emails are being sent to all volunteers with information from national headquarters. In Scouting terms, these are definitive guides and supersede any local suggestions or advice, as long as they do not conflict with current UK Government advice.


In Wansdyke, we’re doing all we can to support our groups during this time, by providing access to systems and resources. Continue to check this page regularly for updates, as we will be continuously adding to it.


Whilst all current face-to-face meetings are to be stopped, Scouting can still live on at home!

There are resources available for young people to work on badges at home, which can be awarded when meetings resume.

Badges at Home

Online Scout Manager has recently released 'Badges at Home'.

This is a fantastic feature which allows leaders to set instructions via video or text on OSM, and members can complete the bade at home, uploading video or photo evidence to support their work.

Badges can then be awarded on return to meetings.

Virtual Meetings

Many Scout groups around the world are now making use of virtual meetings.

This could be used to set young people off on home activities (such as 'Badges at Home') or you could run an entire evening online.

Many tools are available to support you with this.

Zoom is being trialled by many Scout groups already for this purpose. You can have up to 40 minutes of free calling with Zoom, with a host of useful features. See more about Zoom here.

All face to face meetings is to be suspended, in line with the national guidance.

There are several tools which can allow you to continue with your Executive and team meetings online.

  • Google Hangouts
  • Microsoft Teams
  • Zoom

Support is available from the district for using Google Hangouts, where free premium accounts can be created for volunteers. Contact: for more information.

Following the advice to suspend all face-to-face meetings, activities and events, it's important to consider any events you may have scheduled locally.

In Wansdyke and Avon, some events have been cancelled, these will appear below.

  • Avon Jamboree 2020
  • District Sectional St George's Day events

The World Organisation of the Scout Movement (WOSM) has announced a special edition of Jamboree on the Internet, to take place April 3-5. Details can be found on their website.

The following National events have been cancelled:
• Day of Celebration at Windsor
• Beaver and Cub Fundays at Gilwell Park and Woodhouse Park
• Gilwell 24

If you need further support with the events unfolding, please don't hesitate to contact the relevant person(s).
