Keeping your data safe

Here at Wansdyke Scouts, we take data protection seriously.

Data protection is managed at different levels throughout the district. Please select one of the options below to see the most relevant information for you.

Scout Groups

Scout groups manage data protection independently of the district as they are charities in their own right.

The group executive committee is the Data Controller for each group and holds responsibility for data protection and compliance with the relevant legislation. They may have appointed a specific person to oversee data protection in the group.

If you have any questions regarding data protection in your group, including breach reports or subject access requests, please contact your child’s leader who will be able to direct you to the appropriate person. Alternatively, you may wish to contact the Group Scout Leader (lead volunteer for the group) who will also be able to help.

Explorer Units and Network

Explorer Units and Network are district sections. As such, the district oversees data protection for these units.

The units follow the district’s privacy policy.

The district executive committee acts as the data controller, with a designated Data Protection Officer.

For data protection queries, including breach reports and subject access requests, you can contact the district Data Protection Officer via [email protected]

District Units and Teams

If a member is part of a district unit (such as an Active Support Unit) or team, the member’s details will be held in line with the district privacy policy. As such, the district executive committee acts as the data controller, with a designated Data Protection Officer.

Any questions or queries, including subject access requests or breach reports, should be directed to the district Data Protection Officer via [email protected]

District Events

District events may require groups/units to share members’ personal details with the district for the purposes of safety or within legitimate interest to run the event. Not all district events require this to be done, so please check with your child’s section leader for confirmation. If this is the case, details are stored in line with the district privacy policy. As such, the district executive committee acts as the data controller.
