Scouts go wild in Wansdyke!

On Friday 10 th May 70 scouts and 25 leaders from across Wansdyke District all converged on
Chelwood Scout Camp for a Tough Mudder themed camp.

On Friday the Scouts enjoyed an evening of orienteering around the site followed by a sausage and
chip supper.

On Saturday following flag break the Scouts were divided into groups and sent off on their various
challenges and activities. They enjoyed crate stacking, some going as high as 12 crates high before
falling and swinging on their harnesses usually in fits of laughter. Over at the Survival base they learned how to cook cakes in a Dutch oven over a fire. They wrapped mackerel in cabbage leaves and cooked them on the open fire. Fire lighting skills were taught so they could use a Kelly Kettle to boil water and fry an egg.

A caving system was created using wooden frames and canvas which the scouts enjoyed crawling
through. A slack line challenge was attempted by many of the Scouts. Walking the A-frame was a challenge not to be missed and encouraged excellent team working. Watching the Scouts attempt to put a tent up blindfolded was really quite funny. The Scouts also learned shooting and archery which
are always popular activities. The day would not be complete without the sound of the climbing wall
bell when a Scout reached the top.

An entertaining evening was spent at the camp fire with the scouts taking turns to perform.
Sunday saw the scouts enjoy the Tough Mudder Challenge itself. A river run with challenges along
the way, then climbing through the spiders web, up the water slide whilst being washed back down
with buckets of water, over the standing rope net, pushing a giant ball up the hill, and under the net
to the finish line.

New Scouts were invested at the camp flag down and closure marking the end of a brilliant weekend
full of fun and adventure.

Scouts take to the Solent in sailing project

22 scouts and leaders last weekend took to the Solent aboard 2 Yachts for an experience of big boat sailing sleeping on Board for 2 nights. The conditions were light on Saturday with a force 4 to 5 on Sunday. On Sunday the boat was under full sails and some awesome sailing was had.

The boats sailed out the Hamble River and sailed across the Solent staying on a Marina in Gosport overnight

My 2 sons had a fantastic time on the sailing trip. It is an amazing experience for them and one which most people will never have in their lifetime. Thank you so much. Hopefully they will get to do it again.

Welcome to our website!

Welcome to the Wansdyke District Scouts website! We are just one part of the 32 million plus people who belong to the worldwide Scout Movement. Our area covers Bath and North East Somerset (minus Bath) and every night of the week, somewhere in Wansdyke, Scouting will be happening and giving young people the chance to experience challenge and adventure, friendship and teamwork- and more importantly having fun in a safe environment with trained volunteer adult leaders.

We always welcome new adults to Scouting in many different ways, from a pack assistant to a section leader or on our group and district executive committees as Chairman, Treasurer, Secretary, or various other admin and fundraising roles.  Our aim is to make Scouting just as much fun for our adult volunteers as we do for our young people.

Please tour our pages and see what young people can experience through the balanced Scouting Programme.  Young or old, we’re waiting to hear from you.
